Esha Deol turns 26 in Tirupati

Unlike other girls her age, Esha Deol didn't bring in her birthday at a passionate pub with her perky pals. "I'm in Tirupati with my mom, conversing with the Gods," she said on her 26 th birthday on Nov 2. "People see me as this carefree bindaas girl. But there's this other very quiet and religious side to me. I've these long conversations with God. So here I am, at Tirupati. What did I ask Him for? Doesn't everyone want something or the other from God?"

Right now Esha wants to change lanes in her career. "Enough of doing nothing in big-banner films. I've become selfish .I've recently learnt to say no. So I've been saying no to guys and to movies. I'm exercising the right to decline men and movies quite democratically. I've been turning down big banners because I had nothing to do in their films. I'd rather do the things that interest me instead of movies that misuse me."

Esha is now going back to a childhood passion. "I used to learn Russian ballet as a child. I think I'll pursue that again, and practice my Odissi dancing while I wait for good roles to come my way. Can you believe I've been around here for 5 ½ years! Have I changed? Yes! I used to be vulnerable and naïve. Now I'm a tough nut to crack. Let's see who finally cracks this nut," she laughs heartily.

So will Esha's guy be from outside the industry? "Why?" she shoots back. "My father is from the film industry. And he's the nicest guy I've ever met. So why not an industry guy for me? You never know."

Esha returned to Mumbai from Tirupati on the evening of her birthday. "For a quiet dinner with just close family and friends. That's the way I like it. I want to be alone with just the people who matter to me. I'm now getting settled in my space."

Priyanka Turns Super Hero

Boom Crash Bang! Make way people….for here comes the superhero! For a change, this time, it’s not a he, it’s a she! The world knows her as Priyanka Chopra; the girl who has attempted almost everything that others can only dream of: Miss World, model, and now a movie star, without ever compromising on her Numero Uno position.

When others were running around the bushes romancing their ‘normal’ heroes, Priyanka went a step further to romance a superhero in Krrish, which was India’s answer to the likes of Superman and Batman.

And now, life has come a full circle for her, as ‘Virgin Comics’ has created a new superhero character after Priyanka, which will be furthered to comic books, animation and games.

Priyanka said that since she loves cartoons and animations, being able to create her own original superhero with Virgin's amazing group of artists and storytellers was ‘a dream come true’!

The superhero will be an adopted girl who discovers that she is the latest in the line of princesses with great mystical powers and a sworn duty to take down evil wherever it lurks.

The so-far untitled story is expected to have a 2008 launch, which will be further taken into animation games and even a theatrical live-action film! What remains to be seen is if this beauty will succeed in her animated duty.

Dhoni is truly sexy, gushes Urmila

Urmila Matondkar was the chosen one — she was approached to be there to greet the T20 World Champions, who were given the most rousing welcome ever seen in Mumbai post independence.

The bus ride that took Dhoni and his triumphant devils from the international airport to Wankhede stadium would have culminated with Urmila greeting them with garlands and tikkas, but she had to forego the opportunity because of a prior commitment.

A regretful Urmila says, “Yes, they were really keen on having me there to greet the team. But I had a prior commitment in RK studios, Chembur, and it would have been impossible for me to travel from Churchgate to Chembur.”

But Urmila especially rues a lost encounter with the captain of the team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. She says, “Their game was truly exciting and this victory will remain close to every Indian’s heart for a long time to come, considering that they are all young, fairly inexperienced players who have taken on the stalwarts of the world and come back with the Cup. It is a proud day for all of us.”

Talking about Dhoni she says, “Dhoni is the most dynamic player I have seen. He is an extremely talented player and its exciting to see someone with so much will power, focus and charisma. He is so chilled out and to imagine he comes from a small place in India but has enough confidence to rise above being a regular player is truly sexy.”
