Punk Fashion
Punk fashion has always been one of the most edgy fashion styles on the scene. At one point, the heavy metal chains and spikes were only in the underground scene. These were articles of clothing that people had to create on their own, usually using old clothing and junk clothing. The torn, tattered, and chained look was the essential look of the punk fashion.
Since then there has been an acceptance of punk hairstyles. This wide spread acceptance of punk did nothing to curb its growth, but rather, the punks simply got younger. With the commercializing of punk due to the popularity of bands such as The Ramones and Green Day, punk clothing has taken on a whole new standard. If one were to look at today's punk fashion, it matches nothing to what the Sex Pistols were wearing. Today's punk fashion does not utilize dirty clothing or naturally worn clothing. Now are the days of clean clothing that is made to appear dirty and worn. New pants with fresh holes already in them. The chains are easily removable and the patches are simple and clean. This change of punk has done nothing to harm the fashion or the feeling. If anything, it has only helped the image. No longer do the punks smell of dirty clothing and oil, but are now clean and crisp. The punk ages have gotten younger, making for adults who have already experimented with the image. The shoes are new and well cared for. The destruction of new outfits and shoes is no longer necessary for those lucky enough to have them.
