[News] Wonder Girls ''We Have Passion and We Believe In Ourselves''

By PAPERMAG
Photographs by Katherine Wolkoff
K-Pop super group the Wonder Girls were included in our 2011 Beautiful People issue (on stands now), but we thought these photos and extra quotes from Alex Littlefield’s profile on the group were just too fabulous not to share. Read on for more Wonder Girl wisdom from members Yenni and Yubin about making it in the U.S. and what it takes to be one of them.
What it takes to be a Wonder Girl.
We believe that everyone can be a Wonder Girl; if you believe in yourself and really dream about something. It’s not like we have super powers, or a super talented or super beautiful, super pretty, but we have passion and we believe in ourselves.” –Yenny
On ’starting over’ in the U.S.:Before we [came to New York], we knew it would be starting all over again. It was fun. In Korea, people would be like, ‘What do you need? What do you want?’ — all the time. But here we have to find what we need. I feel a little bit more freedom.” –Yenny
How that motivates them:
“In Korea, we loved to make music, but here we really, really realized that we want to pursue our career. And that’s really thanks to fans who want to support us.” –Yubin
On fame:
“The first few years [in the group] were a little hard, for all of us. We were really young and really busy, and we felt like we were maybe missing something, as [in] a teenager life … Life just changed; it totally changed. We were students, teenage girls, and suddenly we were singers.” –Yubin

[NEWS] Wonder Girls Enlist Top 40 Heavyweights For June U.S. Debut

“Until now, it has only been a practice game,” said Rainstone, songwriter for Wonder Girls record label JYP Entertainment, back in January. “The Wonder Girls will begin their real, full-scale American debut this year.” The Girls appear ready to make good on Rainstone’s promise/threat, recently preparing their fanbase for the scheduled June release of their official U.S. debut album. “[The Wonder Girls] are busy recording their album with world renowned composers,” said JYP in a released statement. “Their comeback schedule will be adjusted after they finish their album production in the U.S.”

The Girls, who became the first South Korean act to hit the Billboard Hot 100 when their 2009 single “Nobody” (released in the U.S. in English) debuted at No. 76, have enlisted the help of a couple American hitmakers for their planned invasion over the Pacific. Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, the man behind such smash hits as Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name” and Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” has been brought in to assist with production, and Claude Kelly, songwriter to stars like Miley Cyrus (“Party in the U.S.A.”) and Kelly Clarkson (“My Life Would Suck Without You”), has also been revealed to be heavily involved with the album.

Will the participation of these high-profile collaborators put the Wonder Girls over the top in the US of A? We’ll find out soon, but in the meantime, the Girls can keep themselves sharp with their upcoming gig in front of 90,000 fans at Beijing’s Olympic Arena. Hey, after that, playing a couple nights at Nassau Coliseum should be like a paid vacation for these guys.

[News] Wonder Girls Sohee's fashion secret, discovered?

Recently a fashion community cafe analyzed Sohee’s fashion clothes and much to their surprise they discovered her ’secret’, which is her way of coordinating old clothes and upgrading it into something new.
A netizen said “Back in 2008, Sohee was wearing that same black coat that she was seen wearing recently at the airport”, and continued saying he would look for more identical clothes.
After looking for more photos of Sohee with identical clothes the netizen noticed that she was wearing a striped shirt when she debuted and when she was doing a broadcast. She was also spotted wearing a red knitted dress at a fansigning event 2 years ago and at the end of last year.
She was also seen wearing the black coat at a fashion show event. The shoes, bag, and hats are not the only fashion items. She occasionally wears a red knitted hat at airports, concerts, and when there is no broadcasts.
The netizen added “Sohee’s way of fashion is that she uses old clothes and coordinates it into something new” and “she doesn’t just pick random luxurious items but instead she coordinates to look nice”.
Another netizen stated “Even if i wear clothes for one day it’ll look old but Sohee seems to manage hers pretty well”.
Others flooded her with praise stating “Such meticulous fashion sense. I think it’s prudent”, “Exposed shift-wear mania?”, “peculiar way of managing clothes”.
