YG ON AIR is a show comprised of various forms of video clips to be produced by YG. It is a YG Internet broadcast created after long thought and desire to create a broadcast program that will set itself apart from the frames of other programs, focusing on ideas and filled with fun content.

The main trait of YG ON AIR is that there isn't any type of frame limitation on any aspect.

For example,
With Park Bom's live broadcast tomorrow at 6:05, Big Bang and 2NE1 will host the show in a comfortable live broadcast with no formalities in a watchable radio format, and create an atmosphere that will allow our artists and fans to communicate with each other in live broadcast, and also more quickly and efficiently deliver our music videos and concert making films.

YG ON AIR broadcast is undergoing development with Korea's largest portal website "Naver"… We plan on cooperating with each other as we set out, and later on, we also plan on a joint production of 2NE1TV SEASON 3 as well as stage performances just for YG ON AIR.

YG ON AIR broadcasts will be shown in channels such as YG LIFE and YOUTUBE with subtitles so that international fans may enjoy as well.

The contents will be produced in the form of pirate videos so it is hard to settle on a consistent weekly broadcast date yet,

But next Friday we plan on showing a 2NE1-sung version of Park Bom's solo song "DON'T CRY."

We plan on earnestly using the various ideas suggested to us by fans

So please look forward to it and cheer us on.

[NEWS] 110412 "Big 3" In K-Pop See Highest Profits For 2010, JYPE, ONEDAY

The profits for last year are out for the "Big 3" in k-pop -- SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.

Late last March, the audit reports containing sales, operating profits, and net profits, for SM and JYP were revealed for the fiscal period January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. The last of the trio, YG's reports were completed on April 12th.

One thing to note is that all three companies saw their best year in terms of sales and net profit. The total of sales from all three formed a figure over 150 billion won. Needless to say, SM, YG and JYP were all in the black last year.
Starting off with SM Entertainment, which is a KOSDAQ listed company, 2010 brought in 86,400,960,000 won in sales. This was 25 billion won more than 2009's figures which was the highest SM had seen until that point.

After the cost of materials and labor were taken out, the operating profit totaled at 25,475,810,000 won. This was more than a 15 billion won increase from 2009. Also, the net profit broke the 20 million mark for the first time, standing at 21.8 billion won. In 2009, SM only pulled in 4.4 billion won in net profit.

As for YG Entertainment, it earned 44,772,890,000 won in sales, 10,345,040,000 won in operating profit, and 9,768,240,000 won in net profit. 2009 was YG's best year all across the board, but 2010 replaced all records with higher figures. In 2009, sales was roughly 35.7 billion won, operating profit about 7.4 billion won, and net profit about 4.2 billion won.

JYP Entertainment did not disappoint either. The company recorded 21,680,120,000 won in sales for 2010. This is almost doubled the figure of 10.2 billion won in 2009. Operating profit last year stood at 5,903,990,000 won, surpassing the 230 million won from 2009. Even more astonishing was the strong net profit figures in the black. JYP saw figures dip into the red in 2009 after generous investments were made into debuting its group Wonder Girls in the US. After the minus 4.7 billion won it saw in 2009, JYP made a comeback in 2010 with 900,004,340,000 won in net profit.

SM Entertainment is headed by Lee Soo-man, representing top stars such as BoA, Super Junior, Girls Generation, SHINee, f(x), Kangta, etc. YG Entertainment was founded by Yang Hyun-suk, managing big names like Big Bang, 2NE1, Se7en, Gummy, PSY, etc. Last but definitely not least, JYP Entertainment is led by Park Jin-young, having created acts such as 2PM, Wonder Girls, 2AM, etc.

[News] SM, YG, JYP Total Revenue Hit Record High in 2010

KPOP’s top three management agencies, SM Entertainment (SME), YG Entertainment (YGE), and JYP Entertainment (JYPE), have recorded all-time high revenues in 2010, exceeding 150 billion won (137 million USD) in total when combined together, local media Star News Money Today reported in an exclusive report today. Star News acquired revenue audit reports of all three labels through an internal system built by the Financial Supervisory Service from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st of last year, as they were given access to each company’s total sales, sales revenue, and net profit in the cited period. According to the report, all three companies recorded a surplus in revenue, which was more than 150 billion won (137 million USD) altogether.

SME’s total sales from 2010 were 86.4 billion won (79 million USD), an increase from 61.7 billion won (57 million USD) they recorded in 2009—the highest in company history. Their sales revenue also rose by 15 billion won (14 million USD) to 25.4 billion won (23 million USD) compared to the previous year, while their net profit reached 21.8 billion won (20 million USD), surpassing the 20 billion won mark for the first time as well.

YGE too had the best year in terms of total sales and net profit. The hip hop label’s total sales were 44.7 billion won (41 million USD), sales revenue 10.3 billion won (940K USD), and net profit 9.7 billion won (890K USD) in the past year. It only took them one year to break their previous high which was set in 2009.

JYPE had the lowest net revenue among the three, but nonetheless put up quite impressive numbers. Their total sales from last year was 21.6 billion won (20 million USD), more than twice the amount from 2009, while their sales revenue came in at 5.9 billion won (5.4 million USD), a remarkable growth from the previous year’s 230 million won (210K USD). What’s more impressive is the fact that JYPE was finally able to turn things around and record a surplus of 904 million won (830K USD). In 2009, JYPE ran a deficit of 468 million won (430K USD) due to their investment in Wonder Girls’ US promotions.

There’s no question these three agencies and their artists, especially the idol groups, are leading the way for KPOP’s explosive popularity around the world. Soompi has seen it firsthand how popular globally these idol bands are, e.g. SNSD, Super Junior, Big Bang, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, and 2PM, and these revenue figures are just a testament to their growing business and global appeal that is sure to get bigger over time. It should be interesting to see how much growth (or reduction?) these companies and KPOP as a whole see this year too!

[News] SM, YG, JYP And More Form One Massive Global Agency, “United Asia Management”

The biggest entertainment companies in Korea have joined together to create one massive management agency known as “United Asia Management.”

All of the artists under SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, KeyEast, Star J Entertainment and AMENT will now be managed under the company in their endeavors including movies, dramas and all other entertainment content production.

The six companies came together to share their business know-how and network so that they can advance the Hallyu wave into an Asian Pop Music wave all around the world.

It’s still unclear as to whether the artists will be both under UAM along with their respective companies.

What is clear is that this is essentially a monopoly that could crush smaller companies and their artists…

[News] YG-Life Update: Statement on Big Bang's "Love & Pain Tour"

It is scheduled that BIGBANG will promote in Japan in May and June but fans raised their concern about their Japan tour. Regarding that, YG Entertainment has the same concern as fans.

Ever since the earthquake, YG has taken into consideration whether to postpone BIGBANG's Japan tour date. Since the situation in Japan is still not stable currently, the schedule is still not confirmed yet although we have already communicated with the company in Japan for a few times already.

Like other Korean singers who have advanced into the Japanese market, the final decision whether we will still carry out the same schedule depends on our contract with the company in Japan since the company has the authority to do so.

In fact, this problem is not only faced by YG and BIGBANG since in May, other groups like ‘SNSD’ and ‘2PM’ have also planned to do their activities in Japan. These days, concerning the Japan’s situation, BIGBANG would rather proceed their concerts and donate some of their earnings to the 2700 victims of the affected areas in Japan, our VIP fan club in Japan also planned to help too.

We totally understand how you are concerned with the safety of BIGBANG in Japan. Whether BIGBANG can process their concerts safely depends on the places they perform and we will make a decision based on how the Japanese feel and after understanding the situation thoroughly.

Your concerns are justified since amidst such an unexpected disaster, the safety of BIGBANG should be put into careful consideration. Although there are still a lot of variables in the Japan situation, and so is the Japan tour of BIGBANG, I really wish to express my sorrow to the fans who have been hurt in the disaster.

Through this concert, we will keep on consulting with the Japanese side to see how we can help to contribute to the relief work.

[News] YG reveals 2NE1 will wait for Japan to stabilize before resuming activities

Girl group 2NE1′s full-scale entry into Japan is facing a temporary delay.

2NE1, who were supposed to start their Japan promotions in March through to May with Japan’s largest record label, Avex are now expected to focus on local activities. They had started their pre-debut activities this month in preparation for their massive Japan promotions.

However, because of the earthquake that occurred in Japan on the 11th, which caused numerous casualties and property damages, 2NE1′s penetration into the Japan market has been held off and put on hold.

On the 16th, YG Entertainment agancy head, Yang Hyun Suk, revealed to Star News on the 16th,“We planned to have many promotional activities for Japan, for at least two months until May, where they will concentrate there,” but he continued, “However, because of the recent great damage that happened in Japan, 2NE1′s promotional plans and activities would hae to be on hold and would first act on helping Japan instead”, he said.

After that, Yang Hyun-Suk said, “2NE1 and everyone else genuinely wish that no more damaes happen to Japan and the Japanese fans.” He said, “For now, we truly cannot tell when the time for 2NE1′s Japanese activities would be, and we can’t guarantee a date, but when things become more stable in Japan, then we would grant all the requests to have local promotions,” he said.

And yet, Yang Hyun-Suk also revealed, “Once we decided to penetrate the Japan market, we origially planned for the girls to return back to the domestic scene during June or July, but for now, the possibility is extremely high that it would be moved up”, he said, “We aim to release a new domestic for 2NE1 on April”, he finished.

Meanwhile, 2NE1 departed the country on the 9th, to be able to appear on Music Station on the 11th, but due to the earthquake that happened on the day of the broadcast itself, the program was cancelled, and 2NE1 returned home on the 12th.
