Junsu : On variety shows, I dropped the bombshell. Members often stop me from going too far. LOL
Taec : On stage, my pants ripped and underwear came out.
Nichkhun : Fans told me that my zipper was open on stage.

◆ The way idols are being viewed, issue vs. responsibility

- Singing, dancing, now including acting and variety, Jiyeon is a young girl who isn't afraid of first challenges. Isn't it also your first try at voice acting through 'Gnomeo and Juliet'.

Yes, that's right. For just regular acting, I think about how I can make myself come out well on the screen. However, for dubbing, you have to give your all into your voice. I think that's why I think I overreacted. (laughs) Although difficult, I found that putting feeling into your own voice was a job full of its charms. I was just concerned a lot over what would happen if my voice sounded lower than my partner's, MBLAQ's Lee Joon.

- From what we heard from your company, they seem to have said that 'rather than the amount of practicing time, it's Jiyeon's quick learning ability'.

I don't think that's it. (laughs) The result comes out just as much as I practiced.

- In the past, mostly comedians have done animation dubbing. But a lot of idol members have been beginning to come out as well, such as SNSD's Taeyeon and Seohyun in 'Super Bad', f(x)'s Sulli in 'Sammy's Adventures', Kara's Goo Hara in 'Alpha and Omega' etc.

I think there is the effect for idol members that try dubbing to be able to make it become a big issue. However, as much attention they receive, whether they do well or not, idols have to take on that responsibility that comes with. The responsibility keeps getting bigger.

- It really is the 'idol multiple ability' generation. Is there a certain area you're particularly interested in between music promotions and acting.

Both have its charms to the point where I can't possibly pick one. Singing and acting, I really like and find it enjoyable. It's cruel to even make me pick one. Of course, I still worry. Since there is the pressure to have to do even greater.




◆ Expressionless cold doll? Unfair misunderstanding

- Do you have any idol members you're close with.

There's Lee Joon. We met during 'Jungle Fish 2' and we met again this time for 'Gnomeo and Juliet' as lovers of the century. (laughs) We also picked each other as each other's closest idol member on a variety program. To be honest, there aren't many people I'm close with in the entertainment world. People say my first impression appears to be cold.

- But your doll-like looks look more lovely than cold.

Others can mistake me for looking mad if I have no expression on. Because I'm extremely shy, I have to have met you a lot of times to be close enough to barely show you aegyo. (laughs) It took a long time to become close with Lee Joon too. Including him, he told me he saw me as a kid with a not-so-good personality at the beginning of our debut days. (laughs)

- Then how did you manage to take on the romantic acting for 'Gnomeo and Juliet' when you say you normally don't have any aegyo.

It was really hard. On top of that, my voice is the husky type so I received a lot of orders from the dubbing artist teachers to make my voice tone go higher.

- In the movie 'Death Bell 2', you played Saehee, in 'Jungle Fish 2' as Seoyool, etc. For your latest projects, you acted as somewhat gloomy characters. But you also received love from fans as the tomboy-ish young lady 'Juliet', 'God of Study''s Hyunjung, and in the variety program 'Heroes', showing your bright sides. What kind of personality are you most comfortable with when it comes to acting.

To be honest, I have strong emotions. I match well with cheerful acting when my cheerful self appears. But I also like showing cold sides as well. I think I go back and forth. (laughs)

◆My real Romeo, 'married man' Lee Chunhee

- In 'Gnomeo and Juliet' you fall in love at first sight with Lee Joon who is Gnomeo. We're curious about the Jiyeon's real ideal type.

The real Romeo for me is a manly but cute guy. I like guys that also have the sense to show cute sides of themselves once in a while. Recently turned 'married man', Lee Chunhee oppa is closest to my ideal type. Even though I haven't met him in person once yet. (laughs)

- We also asked Lee Joon next to you who his ideal type was and he answered with "a kind person". Persistent with his answer, he gave a silly reply "I'll just go with Jiyeon", also answering that the prettiest girl group member was Jiyeon.

I took care of oppa a lot. When filming 'Jungle Fish 2', I even let him borrow my gloves and I found out he just took them. (laughs)


At the compliment given to Jiyeon about the strong red mini-dress worn during the interview, she responded, 'Usually I wear black colored clothes. I don't think bright colored clothes suit me", while giving a shy smile. Lee Joon, who was seated next to her joked "taking things off suits me well', Jiyeon let out a big laugh, reverting back to a young girl, and not as the girl group member full of responsibility.

Dalmatian surprised everyone in their first stage.
They’re rookies for sure, but you could feel the professionalism and ease they felt in knowing how to enjoy the stage. All the members spent a long time training prior to their debut, so Dalmatian built their skills in which allowed them to give off the aura of a non-rookie-like and secure stage in whichever performance. In other words, Dalmatian is prepared rookies who will show their infinitude.

1. The team name for Dalmatian is very unique. Is there a specific meaning behind the team name?
   
   
   Inati – Dalmatian is a breed of dogs, but we also derived it with a combination of the breed and musician. Dogs are known for their loyalty and freedom and for us, we vowed to stay loyal to those who love our music and like the unique spots in Dalmatians, we will put out our character and talents and make music strong in character as well as being fashionable.
   
   
2. Lately the responses for ‘The Man Opposed’ have been hot. How do you feel?
   
   Day Day – To put it simply, I feel like flying. This mini album was really a special album for us since it’s our first album out in Dalmatian’s name. In having people give us this much after enduring an average of 6 years in training for all of us, we’re very grateful.
   
   
3. Introduce to us this album.
   
   Dari – For this album, without differentiating night and day, all the members locked themselves inside the studio inside our dorm. That’s how we were able to get out two self-composed songs, Really Really and Real Eyes, in the album.
   
   Youngwon – Our title song ‘The Man Opposed’ is about a guy convincing a girl who is head over heels for a bad guy. It’s a cute and cheeky plot as the lyrics add onto it; it’s a hip hop dance song. This started because of Jeesu’s idea.
   
   Jeesu – When I was in middle school, I liked a girl but she was dating a guy who acted vulgarly, so I would scream ‘I oppose that man’ and ‘No!’ on the inside. In remembering that moment, The Man Opposed was the song that the members and I worked on.
   
   
4. If you were to go back to your middle school and high school days, what do you want to do? Also, tell us your most memorable moment when you were in school.
   
   Inati – For me, the class trip with my friends! I had a lot of fun then. I also remember changing classrooms with other classes to shock our teachers on April Fools Day. Do they still play pranks for April Fools Day? It’s been a while…
   
   Youngwon – When I went on picnics with our class, I would await the talent show part. My friends and I would eat our lunch boxes beforehand and then dance and sing during the talent show. Since then, I’ve raised dreams of becoming an artist.
   
   Daniel – Honest for me, studying! In the most important time of my life, I fell in love with music so I regret being alone. For those who are smart, study hard!
   
   
5. Dalmatian’s outfits are also unique; even member Youngwon, who dyed his hair blue, became a big issue. Which member is interested in fashion the most?
   
   Daniel – All of the members in Dalmatian have high interest in fashion as well as greed when it comes to clothes. Whenever we’re ready to leave the house, we take note of our style and put efforts into what we wear.
   
   Dari – For me, it’s to the point where I have a room full of clothes. I think I had the most stuff when moving dorms. If I say I’m still in the process of organizing my stuff, then I’m done with my story.
   
   Youngwon – Thank you that my hair style became an issue. I want to take this time in thanking our stylist, CEO, and the director of the hair salon who takes care of my hair as well as decided it for my hair style.
   
   
6. Dalmatian is gaining a lot of attention in putting forth a non-rookie like skills. What are your plans for the future?
   
   Inati – Whenever we practice, there’s a phrase that the members and I always say: “There’s no tomorrow. Today is the greatest day of my life.” We endured a long period of time practicing in doing our best without regrets every day. Like that, that’s how we began our first album but we always have the mindset that it could be our last.
   
   Dari – We will promote efficiently in letting Dalmatian’s name be known all around. Until the day a lot of people will enjoy listening to our music, we will work hard in music and go on broadcasts.
   
   
7. Amongst the much attention, Smart Magazine has finally published its first edition. What kind of information will readers enjoy from our magazine? Also, please greet the readers of Smart (Magazine).
   
   Jeesu – The trend in uniforms along with trendy items. Famous places to eat around various schools? I wish it (magazine) could have this! Because I love food!
   
   Daniel – I think it would be fun to introduce schools that have special facilities or events.

MBLAQ has performed in the K-POP Charity Concert hosted by PD Radio at Bitec Bangna Hall in Bangkok, Thailand on the 29th of April. They have also given a short interview at the press conference before the concert started.

△ How many times have you been in Thailand and how do you feel?
G.O: This time we've come with all five of us. It was really a pity that Mir didn't come with us last time. I can tell you that this concert is going to be awesome.

△ What do you have in store for Thai fans?
G.O: We've prepared a slow beat song for Thai A-plus today. Since every time we came here we only performed dance songs, we want to repay our fans with this song.

△ How do you feel about participating in this concert?
Lee Joon: It is an honor to be a part of a good concert like this one. We're glad that our music can help bring back smiles to the victims faces. Please smile always, because it can help you forget the sorrow. We want you to smile a lot and enjoy with us.
G.O: I also feel sorry for those people since they're living their hard lives while we're staying in a nice hotel with good food. I want to tell them to hang in there. Behind bad luck comes good luck so please be strong.

△ How do you feel about debuting in Japan?
Seungho: We're so excited about our Japan debut on the 4th of May. We will be heading to Japan shortly after we're back in Korea. It's so exciting to meet with our fans in Japan. This debut will be like the first stage for us and not a comeback.

△ How do you feel about your Japanese single, 'Your Luv' doing well on charts?
G.O: We're very happy to have reached #1 on the chart even before debuting. That has been marked as a good start for us. Everyone please support us.

△ Last time you said that you were going to buy Mir a birthday gift. How was it going?
Mir: I didn't get any.
G.O: The gift is in our heart.

△ Do you know any Thai words?
Mir: Ron-jing-jing (It's so hot.)

Despite the fact that he is a world renowned, he's very nice to us and always gives us good advices. He's like our real older brother. He has just won the top spot in the TIME 100 poll. We are very happy for him.

△ Lee Joon, we have heard that you were casted in a drama. How does it feel?
Lee Joon: I feel glad. I was worried at first that I might end up doing bad, because it's been quite some time since I've done 'Ninja Assassin.' So I was afraid that audiences might not like it. However, it turned out to be the opposite so I got the chance to do it through the end. I'd like to be in another drama if I have a chance.

△ Are the other members planning to be in a drama too?

- Plastic surgery? Is it allowed in your contract?

"Plastic surgery is rejected in our contract. We have a really natural beauty concept.

The rookie girl group CHI-CHI formed by Nara, Boreum, A-zi, Ji-U, Peach, Semi, Sui. The avarage of age of the group is around 16-19 years old. 

"We have the power of using our natural beauty. When we sign our contract with the agency, the plastic surgery issue was discused and we are not allowed to have it, and we don't want it or need it. Personally we all love our body and face, why changing our natural beauty to a fake one?" (All)

But this girls commited a big mistake, instead of using stetic surgery, they decided to use a drastic diet of eating cabbage and a sip of water for 365 days.

"We only eated cabbage and a sip of water, and run and go to the gym every time we could spend there. Until the agency began to worry about our condition." (Peach)

"Preparing our debut wasn't easy. We took many singing and dancing lessons, we stayed up late to practice more. We really want to show the best in us" (All)

- Tell us your testimony of your debut
"We took many time for our debut. We were really nervous about making a mistake on stage, on the music video, singing, dancing, we were really nervous, we are not the first rookie girl group to debut, we have much to work on. When you have all the audience there and no one cheering you up is quite hard, it makes you more nervous" (All)

- How's a daily life? How much do you practice?
"We have a trainee life of more than 2 years. Practice time is usually in the morning to night, but we have time to go out and eat, vocal training, and we have time to rest a bit. But we really practice a lot we only have time for that" (Peach).

- How's the life of the CHI-CHI members in the house?
"There are four rooms, we need to share it, we love being roommies and sharing the same roof. Peach and Sui share one room, Semi and A-ji share rooms too." (Ji-U)

- Starving for a debut, why doing that?
"We wanted to look perfect, like dolls for our debut. But we were putting our health in danger. So the company and the boss stoped us and asked us to stop doing that. Our weight was our biggest concern." (Ji-U)

"Later as soon the weight pression was gone, we decided to stop it, how much do we wanted to lose? Weight? or live?. We went to Dosan Park, we eat some sausages, and stop worrying much about weight. I used to go to that park with my friends, it was good being there" (Nara)

- When you said you wanted to debut as singers, your parents were OK with it?
"We didn't have any oppsition, they were really supportive" (Nara, Aji, Semi, Sui, Boreum and Peach)

"While being a junior high student, they really didn't supported me, they wanted me to study something else, but when they notice I was really interested about it they began to accept it. Now they are my biggest support." (Ji-U)

- During your showcase, last time you mention you were the rivals of SNSD, is that right?
"We never meant to say we were rivals, they are our role-models, we want to become a strong group like them, having really supportive fans. The media exagerate the comment. Thanks to them we earn anti-fans." (Nara)

"Girls Generations are not only the best girl group in Korea or Asia but in the world, but we want to become like them, we don't want to be rivals" (Boreum)

- We have heard you are really great with Japanese language
"No, I'm not really great, I'm still studying really hard to understand the language. The agency wants us to promote there too, but not sure when that's happening" (Nara)

"In your singer days, that have just began, what you promise to do?"
- We dare us to be wonderful every day (Aji)

- When we got the song. We really needed to practice the choreography and the song lyrics a lot before debuting and before going to stage. Nowdays we only practice the choreography for some minutes. (Nara & Sui)

- We have non-stop 3 or 4 hours of practicing, we really practice really hard. Even when during our lives we are only running around, dancing and singing, an there's silence, we know one day someone will cheer for us. (Boreum & Aji)

- I have a weird way to vocalize. I do yoga, I breath, hold it, and I keep doing it, and I sing in escale, it really works for me. (Ji-U)

"Some new girl groups songs time are around 3 - 5 months, this is something really controversial"

- Singing a song of 3 or 5 minutes don't show how active that group is going to be. All the members have time for showing their charms in the music video. Anyone can sing the duration they desire, but the good singers even with 1 seconds, can show their potential. I wished the viewers and media would give an opportunitie to it, and don't notice about duration of songs!" (Boreum, Ji-U, Nara)


"Being a rookie, what are your inner thoughts"

Many members nowdays, are becoming hot issue, thanks to the great demand of girl groups. Many have debuted this year, many of them have been waiting for their debut, like Chi-Chi and Rania.

"The exposure of the choreography is great, what do you think?
- We wanted to keep it easy and nice to show what we can do. I think we are like a great team, and we really know how to make it work. (Boreum, Ji-U & Nara)

"How does it feel when people said Sui was the resemblance of a senior"

- For me it was an honour, she's my senior, but I was feeling really great when people said that. (Sui)

"Rewarding to being school students, now that you've debuted what have it changed about?"
- We don't really have all the free-time we used to have. We can't really have time for our friends. Now that school-days are over and stage days are here, it's harder for us to chat with our friends, to call them or even going out with them. (Sui & Boreum)

"Do you have a senior in the bussines who supports you?"
- Yes, Hong Soo Ah, she's really supporting us a lot.(Nara)

- Tony, one of our seniors, when I walk in the hallways and he's around there, he asked me to work really hard with the girls. (A-zi)

"Are there any seniors you want them to cheer for you"

- During a baseball opening, wich is different from stage, I was really scared that day (Ji-U)

"There are many nice guys around. Are you interested in having a boyfriend?

- No boyfriends. We don't have time for it. (All)

- We are going to focus in our dream for now. I don't think my cellphone is ready for romantic chats. (Nara)

"Any role-models for Chi-Chi?"

- Girls Generation, we really admire them. We really want to follow them, they are really strong and they're like a family, we want to be a group like them. We really hope we can met them one day, and give us some tips on dancing and singing, we really love them and admire them. We never want to be rivals, we want to be friends.

- We respect all our seniors, we also admire Lee HyoRi senior, she's really great and knows how to dominate the stage. We want to learn from our seniors, she's really sexy, she knows all about fashion, our Girl Generation's seniors are really succesful in Japan, they are our role-model.

"Aspirations as singers?"

- I really want us to become great singers. We hope to be really succesful this year. Every member be really succesful and healthu (Nara)

- I want to be multi-player. I want to sing, dance, be on variety shows, MC-ing. I also would love to learn to write songs.(Ji-u)

- Versatil singer, to be able to stay in the entairtaiment bussiness. (All)

Idol group U-KISS has made their comeback with the release of their 5th mini album entitled 'Bran New Kiss'. Instead of showing their usual intense music style and strong men images, U-KISS has come back as romantic guys through this album.

The most different thing that can be noticed through this cycle of activities is the recruitment of new members. U-KISS has recruited the former member of Paran's AJ and once had a solo career's Hoon into the group, to show their mature side without regret.

As new members, they have already participating actively in the group's activities. They did feel the burden as they weren't debuting with a new group.

"I did not feel like carrying a big burden due to the experiences I've collected during my previous activities. But I did feel a little bit of burden since I only sing ballad songs before. "It's true that my opinion wasn't reflected during my activities with Paran hyungs because I was very young at that time. At that time, I accepted hyungs' opinions and just followed them as I realized that was the right decision to be taken. “I saw 2NE1 first through the internet.” Jeremy Scott’s and 2NE1’s initial meeting was purely through their interest towards one another. I contacted Korea’s part for Adidas and told them I really wanted to meet them and to open up (host) a fun party together.” And so on March 2010, Jeremy Scott and 2NE1 hosted a party that was the talk of the town. Curious as to what this extremely talented young woman has in her future, I asked which musician she looks up to as her role model.“These days, I really like Queen’s Freddy Mercury. My dad really loved Queen so I’ve grown up listening to their music, but recently I had a chance to watch their concert video and they were amazing.” Truth be told, if she told me that her role models were Beyonce or Rihanna, I would have been disappointed. Instead of proclaiming she was hip hop to the bone, she showed that she was open to different cultures. Even opening up and getting inspired from legendary musicians before her time which allow her to don the ‘try to copy me if you can’ attitude on stage with her eyes opened wide that still had us nodding to the beat. KHJ: First of all, I analyze the characteristics of my role. In case of Beak SeunJo, I have to look smart and confident enough to be IQ200 genius. To the contrary, he knows that he feels awkward in front of the girl he loves. He tries to control his emotion within himself. With all these points in mind, I have to become SeunJo.
