[NEWS] New KBS Idol Singer Reality Show, Changmin, Junsu

Following the success of the reality show "I'm A Singer" featuring singers that are mainly known for their vocals and staying power in the music industry comes a new KBS show!

It will be called "Immortal Song 2", following "Immortal Song" which aired in 2007-2009. The first season involved renowned Korean artists to teach various entertainers how to sing their top hit songs. This upcoming season will follow a similar concept involving all idol stars. Basically, idol stars will sing the songs of veteran singers and then be judged by the original, legendary singers themselves. Every week, viewers will be able to see if these idol stars improve or not. The difference between "Immortal Song 2" and "I'm A Singer" will be that participants will not be eliminated.

Three main factors the show will aim to follow is to first, focus mainly on singing and no other entertaining talents. Second, the stars will not be allowed to imitate the original singers, but must sing each song in their own way. Lastly, the vibe of the show won't be stressful so the contestants must have fun and not let the competition get to them and bring them down.

The final list of featured stars was released on May 4th through the producer Kwon Jae-yong's twitter account. TVXQ's (op's note: kbs world made a mistake on this part. It's 2AM's Changmin not TVXQ. They even used 2AM Changmin's photo for the article.) 2AM's Changmin, SISTAR's Hyorin, Beast's Yoseop, miss A's Min, Super Junior's Yesung, and solo artist IU will participate with a song by Shim Soo-bong. Originally, SHINee's Jong-hyun was thought to have also been one of the featured idol stars, but conflicting schedules prevented this from happening. There's also still a possibility that 2PM's Jun-su may be added to the lineup later.

The first recording will be shot on May 16th with the pilot episode slated to air in June.

The line-up for ‘Immortal Classic 2’ has been unveiled.

Kwon Jaeyoung, the PD for ‘Immortal Classic,’ posted on his personal Twitter on May 4th , “Changmin, Hyorin, Yoseob, Min, Yesung and IU are all gathered. If these guys could take on Shim Subong’s song… I just think that would be fun. Hey guys, go for it. Don’t be nervous.”

Through this show, these 6 idols who have been praised to have the best singing abilities in the industry, now have the chance to battle each other out. For ‘Immortal Classic 2’, these idol stars will be singing hit songs by legends of the industry, but in their own style, and they will be judged by these very seniors themselves. Singer Shim Subong has been chosen to be the first judge.

IU had previously been considered for the cast of MBC ‘I Am Singer,’ and many were disappointed when these plans fell through. However, battling alongside 2AM’s Changmin, SISTAR’s Hyorin, Miss A’s Min, Super Junior’s Yesung, and BEAST’s Yoseob, fans are eagerly anticipating this star-studded vocal battle.

Meanwhile, ‘Immortal Classic2’ is set to begin filming on May 16th, and will begin airing in early June.

SHINee’s Jonghyun, 2PM’s Junsu, 2AM’s Changmin, B2AST’s Yoseop, and Sistar Hyorin will have singing battles in a program. The title of this program to be aired on Saturday in KBS 2TV is . It is an idol version of the of Happy Sunday. As the original one re-introduced old hit songs by sunbae singers, idol singers will sing old-time hit songs and the sunbae singers will decide the winner. The point seems to be how well they interpret the old songs in their own styles.

KBS Kwon Jaeyoung PD said, “I got goosebumps watching idol singers in last year’s Gayo Grand Festival. There are so many good idol singers. I think it is good for both singers and viewers to have a program that offers a chance to listen to their songs.”

As to the view that the program format is similar to that of of MBC Sunday Night, he said, “If you expect to see an idol version of , you’ll be disappointed. For there is no ranking or elimination in the . I think there is no measuring music in scores.” Idol singers have been labeled “3 Second Singers” as they have to share parts with other members in a big group. This will be a good chance for them to prove their singing ability.

Recently, the music industry has been saturated with idols for awhile.

A young and healthy idol singer's singing and dancing abilities as well as talent can be said to lead to his/her explosive popularity, and yet, in female portal site Ezyday's popularity corner and TV entertainment corner, an interesting survey was carried out to find out 'among idols, which male singer and female singer have the best singing abilities?'

Consequently, 2287 netizens participated in the survey and IU was selected as the best female singer, while 2AM's Changmin was selected as the best male singer.


Of the 1131 netizens who answered the question about the female idol with the best singing ability, 41% of them chose IU. She has been receiving a lot of love from teenage students as well, for her outstanding singing ability and is currently gaining popularity for her song 'The Story Only I Didn't Know'.

Following her, SNSD's Taeyeon, who received 18% of the votes, came in 2nd place and Seo In Young, who received 10% of the votes, in 3rd place.

In carrying out this survey, 10 female idol stars who are not only popular but also possess great singing ability were targeted, including Lee Haeri (Davichi), Park Bom (2NE1), Jea (Brown Eyed Girls), Luna (fx), Hyorin (Sistar), Narsha, (Brown Eyed Girls), Sunye (Wonder Girls), etc.

On the other hand, out of the 1156 netizens who answered the question about the male idol with the best singing ability, Changmin received 30% of the votes, coming in 1st place.
